On Saturday
June 26, from 11 to 11:30 a.m., business listeners from
across Eastern Massachusetts and six New England states
could tune into WBIX, 1060 AM, to learn about the Medical
Reserve Corps system.
Nancy Burns,
coordinator of the Upper Merrimack Valley MRC, was invited
earlier that week to be a guest on the weekly program
"Stu
Taylor on Business."
Some listeners
may have been surprised at first to learn about the
formation of Medical Reserve Corps units on a business
program. However, Nancy pointed out that everyone can
benefit from learning about the MRCs. "We are all
affected by the work of the Medical Reserve Corps,"
said Nancy. "Whether it's a public health emergency,
mass casualty disaster, or public service project, an
MRC can touch the lives of local residents and the business
community alike."
As soon as
Nancy checked her messages back at the office, she found
that someone had already left a message to volunteer
as a translator for the nearest MRC. Clearly the word
was out: anyone who has special skills to offer and
wants to help is encouraged to contact their local MRC
about ways to participate.
