Training Day: Animals in Disaster

We are grateful to Dr. Ilene Segal, DVM, who created a new presentation for us entitled, "Sheltering Animals in a Disaster." This new session helped attendees to consider issues that can arise when animals are affected by disasters and need to be transported to safety.

Dr. Ilene Segal makes a point about sheltering companion animals
during her presentation about caring for pets and their owners in a disaster.

Hurricane Katrina and other emergencies have shown repeatedly that some families will not leave their pets behind during an evacuation.

As she illustrated concepts about caring for animals in a disaster, Dr. Segal reviewed a sample first aid kit for pets. She reviewed several handouts and other resources materials that offered preparedness information.
