Training Day — April 9, 2016!

The date is almost here! We look forward to seeing as many of our members as possible at our upcoming UMV MRC Training Day.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, at Middlesex Community College in Bedford. All members should have received the program and registration form by March 12, either in their
e-mails or via postal mail. As a special touch over lunchtime, we look forward to introducing our attendees via Skype to Captain Robert Tosatto, Director of the National MRC Program! This web page provide the final details:

If you have not received your registration form, please call 978-399-2549 to ensure we have your updated contact information. The materials are also provided below.

For the compete five-page Training Day program with session descriptions and speaker bio, click here.

For the one-page Word file that you can save, edit, and send in as your registration form, click here. Instructions for returning the form by April 4 are printed on the form. The event is free for all members, but
you must pre-register
so we can prepare accordingly for meals and handouts.

We have confirmed our speakers and topics in support of this year's theme: "Respond, Don't React: Common-Sense Preparedness in an Uncertain World." Here's the rationale: The magnitude of impacts from recent events, from the Paris bombings to San Bernardino shootings, and a rise in seemingly random attacks at schools and public venues, make many of us want to duck for cover. But MRC responders can play a significant role in protecting and reassuring their communities, without putting themselves at risk.

Please join us in extending a special welcome for our speakers:

Meg Femino (Keynote), Director of Emergency Management for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Terry Downes, Exec. Director of the Program on Homeland Security and Emergency Management at MCC

Peter Laitinen, RN and Paramedic with years of service in emergency rooms and disaster deployments

Christian Lanphere, Ph.D and Director of Emergency Management at Cambridge Health Alliance

Tom Lawrence, Paramedic and team leader of the RI Disaster Medical Assistance Team

Jacky Nally, RN with 30 years of experience in pedi and adult disaster nursing and international missions

Teo Pique, Psy.D and licensed clinical psychologist, with specialties in crisis and trauma counseling

Lynne Emerson and Willow, from The Service Dog Project, Inc.

Amy Lyn Parker, long-term EMT-Paramedic and clinical educator.

We hope you enjoy participating in our unit's signature event!

We thank Enterprise Bank and PrideStar EMS for their financial sponsorship. We also appreciate the generosity of Einstein's Bagels and Starbucks for their contribution of breakfast items.

This year's vendors have contributed some incredibly generous prizes for our lunchtime event. Because attendance at Training Day is free -- as a benefit of MRC membership -- one way we defray the costs is by selling raffle tickets throughout the morning. The raffle also lends a lighter touch to the festivities. The purchase of raffle tickets by our particiants is entirely optional. Last year's raffle defrayed our expenses by a record $540. If each attendee purchases $10 in tickets this year, then their contributions will cover most of the remaining costs. The table below shows raffle prizes received to date; others have also been promised:
